We are delighted to announce that C&K Meats has been honoured with the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise: International Trade 2017.
Chris & Kevin Burrows – whose family tradition in butchery goes back over 200 years – started the company in 1994 and we now employ over 100 people at our state-of-the-art facility. We pride ourselves on our passion for provenance and provide high quality, high welfare (RSPCA Assured), locally-reared meat. We also specialise in British Native Breeds such as Angus, Red Poll and Belted Galloway and are very proud of the work we do in respect of the continuation of these breeds.
We saw the opportunity to promote British meat to high-end markets abroad and, in particular, to Asia where there was a demand for this high quality meat but where the chefs and buyers were not familiar with British cuts and terminology. We embarked on an intensive programme of visits and demonstrations at Food Festivals & trade shows and also at fine dining restaurants & first class hotels.
Three years after first exporting, we now sell to Hong Kong, Singapore (at present we are one of only 5 companies in the whole of the UK licensed to export meat to Singapore), Philippines, Thailand, Dubai, Oman, India, Uganda, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Holland, Germany & Greece. We have just broken into the notoriously difficult Japanese market.
The Queen’s Award for Export is the pinnacle of a number of awards the company has won over the last few years including Exporter of the Year at the Meat & Poultry Processing Awards 2015, and British Quality Pigs Welfare Award in 2016.
C&K Meats have placed British meat on the menus of some of the finest restaurants and hotels in the world.
